    What to Expect

The Italian government has recently announced new regulations to better control the spread of the virus. All people ages 12+ are now required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, a recent negative test (obtained within the previous 48 hours), or proof of full recovery from COVID-19 to enter public indoor venues in Italy.

As you can see, this new regulation will affect your ability to enter the bars, cafes, and restaurants we visit on our Rome tour, as well as any other leisure spaces you plan to visit during your time in Italy.

In order to comply with these new legal regulations, your guide will be checking for this information at the start of the tour. If you are unable to provide either of these, we will be unable to run the tour.

You can read more about the requirements on the digital certificate website here.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you on tour.

Spend an evening exploring Rome’s picturesque Trastevere neighborhood. We’ll hop from enoteca to local bar, from osteria to gelateria, as we dive into the world of Roman gastronomy and Italian wines. Get ready for regional cured meats and cheese, delicious local pastas, a variety of different Italian wines and, of course, our favorite aperitivo cocktail. Consider this your crash course in all things Italian wine and dining, setting you up to eat and drink better for the rest of your stay!

We’ll start things off by saying “cin cin!” with a glass of prosecco in hand. We’ll pair it with a variety of local meats and cheeses at this wine bar known for its extensive wine list and warm, laid-back atmosphere.

At our next stop, you’ll learn that the Italian drinking scene is not just about wine. Here, you’ll have the chance to make your own negroni! After a quick course in Italian mixology, you’ll learn the secret behind making this famous aperitivo cocktail for yourself.

Next up we’ll weave our way through the charming backstreets of the neighborhood to visit a fantastic enoteca with a modern twist. Here we’ll sample a spread of local delicacies. Think tomato, pesto and mozzarella bruschetta and a traditional balsamic vinegar salad paired with two different regional varieties of white wine.

Not done yet, it’s time to hit up one of the area’s most renowned osterias for a dining experience true to the city. Enjoy classic Roman pasta and meatballs prepared by an award-winning chef. And if you thought it couldn’t get better—we’ll be sipping two types of hearty Italian red wine selected by an expert sommelier.

And what would dinner in Rome be without dessert? We’re off to an artisanal gelateria famous for its local, seasonal flavors. You’re going to love the gelato here, and we’ll show you what you need to look out for to separate the real-deal gelatarias from the tourist traps.

And as with all Devour Rome tours, your guide will give you a copy of our Devouring Rome guide, which is packed with all our favorite places to eat and drink in the city! So put down your guidebook and get ready to experience Rome like a local on our evening food and wine tasting experience!

Great question! A Devour Rome food tour is a fun, fascinating and (most importantly!) delicious introduction to the city of Rome. Our food tours visit some of the city’s best traditional establishments including trattorias, delicatessens, wine bars and hidden gems that few even know exist! You’ll taste some of Rome's best local food and gain fascinating insight into the Trastevere neighborhood. We keep our groups small, and every tour is led by an English-speaking guide who knows Rome like the back of their hand.
The tour lasts approximately 3 hours (give or take 15 minutes). The tour covers approximately 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) and there is seating at three stops.
Don’t worry, you won’t be part of a massive crowd following a guide with a flag! We keep our groups small and intimate, so the tour can squeeze into small, hidden places and you get personal time with your guide. The maximum number of guests on this tour is usually 10 people, and we only require a minimum of two people to operate.
We want as many people to be able to enjoy our tours as possible. Scroll up the page a little to see what dietary restrictions this tour is adaptable for.
Given the wine-focused nature of this tour, it's not available for guests under 18 years old. Please see our Testaccio Neighborhood Food & Market Tour for a great option for all ages!
The tour does not include transport to the meeting place, or from the ending point (ask your guide for guidance at the end of the tour if you’re not sure where you are). Also, please feel free to tip your guide if you think they did a great job! The standard gratuity in the tour industry is 10% to 15%.
Most importantly, your appetite! Keep in mind tours take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately and bring an umbrella if it looks like rain. Also, we recommend you wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking a few kilometers. Finally, while we do serve water on the tour at some stops, we recommend you bring a bottle of water.
Absolutely! We regularly organize private tours for families, groups of friends, and more. Email us your group size, the date you'd like the tour and anything else you'd like us to keep in mind, and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.
