Our guide was amazing, very personable and spent time getting to know the group so if you’re flying solo you’re in great hands. She also has the most amazing relationships with each venue we went to and everyone went out of their way to be so wonderful to us. They are small local businesses who all have sustainable practices which was important to me.
The pace of the tour was very leisurely and I would highly recommend this tour to those seeking a true Roman experience that is very comfortable and worth every dollar/euro. Abbie is much more than an amazing tour guide, she is like your personal Roman Food and Culture Coach and you can not go wrong with a Devour Rome Tour with Abbie!
I am from Rome, so I usually do not go on tours and such around my own city, but I decided to accompany a British friend and I could not have organized something better myself. If you are wondering if this will be a genuine Roman experience, listen to a Roman. DO IT!
What to Expect on Your Tour
Spend an evening exploring Rome’s picturesque Trastevere neighborhood. We’ll hop from enoteca to local bar, from osteria to gelateria, as we dive into the world of Roman gastronomy and Italian wines. Get ready for regional cured meats and cheese, delicious local pastas, a variety of different Italian wines and, of course, our favorite aperitivo cocktail. Consider this your crash course in all things Italian wine and dining, setting you up to eat and drink better for the rest of your stay!
STOP BY STOP:
We’ll start things off by saying “cin cin!” with a glass of prosecco in hand. We’ll pair it with a variety of local meats and cheeses at this wine bar known for its extensive wine list and warm, laid-back atmosphere.
At our next stop you’ll take part in a quintessential Italian tradition. No evening in Trastevere would be complete without Italy’s favorite aperitivo cocktail. What better place to enjoy one than this bar where locals meet and socialize with friends, surrounded by decor that hasn’t changed in 50 years?
Next up we’ll weave our way through the charming backstreets of the neighborhood to visit a fantastic enoteca with a modern twist. Here we’ll sample a spread of local delicacies. Think tomato, pesto and mozzarella bruschetta and a traditional balsamic vinegar salad paired with two different regional varieties of white wine.
Not done yet, it’s time to hit up one of the area’s most renowned osterias for a dining experience true to the city. Enjoy classic Roman pasta and meatballs prepared by an award-winning chef. And if you thought it couldn’t get better—we’ll be sipping two types of hearty Italian red wine selected by an expert sommelier.
And what would dinner in Rome be without dessert? We’re off to an artisanal gelateria famous for its local, seasonal flavors. You’re going to love the gelato here, and we’ll show you what you need to look out for to separate the real-deal gelatarias from the tourist traps.
And as with all Devour Rome tours, your guide will give you a copy of our Devouring Rome guide, which is packed with all our favorite places to eat and drink in the city! So put down your guidebook and get ready to experience Rome like a local on our evening food and wine tasting experience!
