    What to Expect

Trastevere’s not the hidden gem it once was—but local hangouts still exist, and that’s where we’re going tonight. Join us on this adventure through Roman cuisine’s star dishes at the bars & restaurants where locals really eat.

We’ll start off on the right foot with a variety of regional cured meats and cheeses at a 100-year-old delicatessen that has been passed down from one generation to the next. Shepherds used to bring their cheese here to sell, and now it’s where Trastevere locals do their weekly shopping.

Our next stop takes us to a hole-in-the-wall street food vendor where you’ll try supplì, Rome’s classic take on the rice ball. Freshly-fried and overflowing with melted mozzarella, you’ll also learn the story behind this emblematic dish.

Pizza is a must in Rome, and we’re getting ours from a family-run pizza al taglio operation. Here, they’re known for their fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, creative toppings and dough that’s left to rise for over 100 hours before baking.

At our next stop, you’ll take part in a quintessential Italian tradition: the aperitivo. And what better place to enjoy Rome’s favorite aperitivo cocktail than this bar where locals meet and socialize with friends, surrounded by decor that hasn’t changed in 50 years?

After having tried some of Rome’s most classic street food, we’re now going to turn to the modern for a creative, savory version of a dish that’s most commonly known as a breakfast sweet. In case you’re not convinced yet, let’s just say there’s burrata involved, and we’ll pair it with an Italian craft beer!

When in Rome, pasta is essential. That’s why next, we’re heading to one of Trastevere’s last remaining traditional trattorias. At this spot that’s been in the same family for over 90 years, you’ll sample two essential Roman pasta dishes while relaxing with a glass of red wine.

To finish things off, we’ll head to an artisanal gelateria. From the classic to the creative, all of the seasonal flavors here are show stoppers—the hard part will be choosing yours!

By the end of the tour, you will have seen a local side of Trastevere and tried the dishes you came to Rome for.

And as with all Devour Rome tours, you’ll receive our Devouring Rome guide. Packed with all our favorite places to eat and drink in the city, put down your guidebook and get ready to experience Rome like a local!
